Claudia Patricia Pérez Vázquez, Chenalhó, Chiapas

Claudia was born in the town of Chenalhó, Chiapas, a Tzotzil area that is located in the beautiful coffee growing municipality of Chenalhó.

Some of the villages are 100% populated by locals from the area and some others like Jolxik, Tzabalhó and Natividad Tejeria are populated by people who came from the Chamula municipality, so, you can see a variety of weaving and embroidery in that area.

Claudia’s parents are typical parents from the area, the man is a farmer and her mother a weaver and embroiderer. She learned how to embroider at the age of 10 and to weave at the age of 13. She left school early to work with her mother and sisters.

She now lives with her parents and belong to a group, K´analetik ( the stars) of 20 women from Chenalhó and other villages in the area. The group produces blouses, shawls, shirts, huipils tunics, table runners, towels, bags etc..

Claudia was recognized for her embroidery in 2014 and in 2018 was chosen to embroider the world champion belt for the middle weight boxer Canelo.
