María del Carmen Cruz José, San Nicolás, Hidalgo
Born in 1969, into the town where the famous Otomi embroidery started, María del Carmen Cruz José was taught the art by her mother as a little girl. San Nicolás is called the cradle of embroidery, and is where all of Maria´s 5 generations of ancestors and family lived and worked on this artform, which is why she loves her work, loves her art and works at it with passion.
Currently, María has 7 people working with her in pulling threads, cutting blankets, painting drawings, embroidering, others in washing garments and ironing.
