In Tócuaro, Michoacán, a Purépecha community known for its vibrant mask-making tradition, craftsmanship is deeply embedded in daily life. Within this context, José Castillo Carpio and Elizabeth Rodríguez Ramos have developed a shared artistic practice that brings together two distinct forms: wood carving and textile embroidery. 

Working from their home workshop, both artists carry forward inherited knowledge, creating pieces that reflect both their community’s identity and their individual sensibilities. Though different in technique, their work converges in a shared purpose: to preserve, reinterpret, and strengthen Tócuaro’s artisanal tradition.
