Komen Arte Textil is a group of 5 people, headed by Jilberto Nuñez Cruz.
Jilberto was born in the municipality of Simojovel, in a village called Ejido Pueblo Nuevo Sitala and moved with his family at a very young age to San Cristobal de Las Casas. Chiapas, in a neighborhood called Mexicanos,
The neighborhood is known for its textile artisans. At a young age he started
learning how to work on a pedal loom from artisans of the area. After 3
years of apprenticeship, he had learned to follow the traditional techniques of
the local artisans and al how to respect the traditions of the community. He
then started working for himself in the same neighborhood.
Maestro Jilberto has mastered the pedal loom, a tool that requires precision, patience and creativity. His work stands out by his designs inspired by nature,
traditional symbols and the use of bright colors.
In 2022 he was selected by the Secretariat de Cultura de Mexico to represent the town of San Cristobal de las Casas in the Encuentro de Arte Textile Mexicano Original in Mexico City.
In 2023 , he was named Cultural Ambassador by the Strategic Regulatory Council of Marca Chiapas and he has taught classes of pedal loom and natural dyes in the Cultural Center, El Carmen, of the city of San Cristobal.
