Angélica Cosío Candelario is a Wixarika artisan. Since began designing her own cross stitch embroidery when she was 3 years old, inspired by the animals she saw around her.
She is currently 42 years old, and have spent more than 25 years in this work, making Wixarika Art, contemporary and traditional jewelry in chaquira, in addition to loom bags, cross stitch embroidery, bags, costumes, decoration of figures with chaquira, stamen painting, personalized pieces and accessories for children.
She is the founder of the brand Maxa kwaxi (Deer tail) dedicated to Wixarika jewelry design.
Their art not only encapsulates the aesthetic beauty of their people, but they also seek to act as a bridge between generations and geographies. That is why “Maxa Kwaxi” was born not only as a business, but as a mission to cultivate and preserve the Wixarika identity.
They have presented their work at different exhibitions and fairs in Mexico, in Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, Tijuana, San Miguel de Allende Guanajuato, Mexico City, Mexicali, Pachuca, Tepic, Zacatecas, Chihuahua and so on. Also, many of the artists have traveled to different parts of the world to display their work, such as the United States, England, France, Brazil, Zuisa, Spain, and Chile.
