Colectivo de Mujeres Totonacas Flor de Maiz Comuto Xaxanacuchi, Huehuetla, Puebla

This group was born from the initiative of a group of Totonac women living in the North Sierra of the state of Puebla, municipality of Huehuetla, community of Plutununchuchut, in order to save their traditional embroidery work. They create blouses, purses, aprons and other articles commonly used.

Other women of different ethnicities from the state of Puebla, as well as women that went to Mexico City for work and learned other forms of folk art, have also joined the group and enriched the variety of the articles they make.

Elvira García Santiago started the group three years ago and is their representative. She learned embroidery and back-strap weaving from her grandmother and mother, and has been the third generation in her family doing this work.

The group consists of 21 women, who are happily earning money while their traditions and folk art alive.
