The Acevedos are a family that works with raffia palm weaving -mainly with accessories and decorative objects. Inspired by traditional objects, they add their special touches to make their creations wonderfully fanciful. The Acevedos are Mixtecs from San Miguel, a town located in the municipality of Silacayoapan, Oaxaca - the Mixtec region that includes parts of the states of Puebla, Guerrero and Oaxaca. The region in the Mixtec language is called Javi Ñuu which means place of rain or land of rain.                                

Due to the difficulties that arise in this region such as drought and the consequent lack of employment, many Mixtecs migrate to different parts of Mexico. The Acevedos were no exception and have lived in Guadalajara for the past 25 years.

The palm techniques used by the Acevedos were taught to them by their ancestors. They have been working in this branch for 8 years in order to promote their culture.  They work on their own and through their trade they have improved their economic situation, besides that it helps them to preserve their old traditions. In the elaboration of their objects they use real palm and not synthetic material.

Carefully woven, these miniatures can take days to make, depending on their complexity.
