Wilibaldo García Tomas, Joyería Mazahua Wilgart, San Felipe del Progreso, Estado de Mexico
The father of Wilibaldo García Tomas, is the great master of folk art, Don Gregorio García Ruiz. So his beginnings in jewelry and goldsmithing obviously followed in the footsteps of his father, as he was very impressed with how his father made earrings and necklaces. Since Wilibaldo was very young he learned to work with his father, but then Wilibaldo moved to to Mexico City to work in another field. Some time later he returned to his town and took up again the techniques he had learned, setting up his own workshop and together with his children and grandchildren, they try to maintain the tradition so that this beautiful craft of Mazahua jewelry is not lost.
Right now they are working in the workshop and Wilibaldo is very happy to say that he has his grandchildren learning and working in silver and they are the fourth generation dedicated to such a noble art.
Jewelry has become an important part of his life, since thanks to it they have been able to survive, selling and exhibiting his pieces in a great part of the nation, where they are recognized and valued.
In the workshop they work with four people, each one has a role, although in the design and assembly phase each one makes their own designs, that is, in the elaboration of pieces such as flowers and birds they all make their own elements and in the assembly each one gives their personal touch.
Thanks to being deep into this magical world of craftsmanship I have achieved recognition in several municipal, state and national contests, among which the following stand out:
