Silvia Olea Flores, Tlaquepaque, Jalisco
Silvia Olea Flores is the third generation of artisans, since she was 7 years old. Her foster grandparents, Paula Rodriguez and Serapio Medrano Hernández were her teachers
in the technique of barro betus. They taught her to safeguard this technique so that it is not lost, and to teach the magic that transmits one´s thoughts and
dreams through one´s hands. Now she works with her three children.
Through her innovation, skill and ability, she has received awards in contests, third place in 2008 and 2015 and an award in creativity in 2018 in Tonalá.
She has her artisan certification. She has participated in talent fusion projects with a silver jeweler. She is also collaborating with guardians of culture where they present their art in museums and in expo sales. She also gives workshops to
children so that they can interact with the artistic creation and may be the
beginning of a story for those who would like to be an artist.
