Pedro Luis Carreño Ramirez, Ocotlán de Morelos, Oaxaca

Pedro Carreño Ramirez is the fourth generation of artisans in his family. Since he was a child, his grandparents had been dedicated to folk art specifically to wood carving, so folk art always has been present in his life. Later Pedro studied engineering, which he paid for with his work in decorative painting folk art. When he graduated and started working in his profession, he realized that he did not like that world, and that he preferred to quit and dedicate himself to folk art. He realized that what he really loved was folk art and loved painting carved pieces.

His town has not been recognized as a artisan town, though 80% of the community is dedicated to handicrafts. All their pieces are sold to resellers in towns near the city. So Pedro and his cousins decided to start looking for distributors and outlets in order to show their work. Through social networks they began to make themselves known, and they decided to take their crafts to another artistic level, presenting unique and unrepeatable collections. Popular art is very important in his life and though they know they have a long way to go, their goals very clear.
