Oscar Ortega López, Tonalá. Jalisco

Oscar Ortega López was born in 1974 into the 4th generation of a ceramics family. When he was a child his father and grandmother had the children help them to produce small pieces, as the handicraft was their heritage and economic income.  Currently there are 8 people in their workshop.

They and 5 families in their community create a form of glazed pottery whose patina was originally made with the resin of a pine tree called “betus.”

Oscar´s goal is to promote and preserve their folk art, to make known around the world their work, and especially to represent Tonalá, Jalisco and Mexico.
