Lucero Castellanos Torres San Felipe, Morelos
Born in 1991, Lucero Castellanos Torres belongs to an indigenous community where this weaving tradition has been preserved for five generations. His grandmother passed this beautiful heritage to him and he has been learning from other master artisans of the community as well.
He works with 10 artisans from the indigenous community of Hueyapan Morelos, some of whom spin the wool, some weave the linen, others stitch the shawls, others twist the ends of the gabán, others clean the garment and remove the detritus that comes with the wool in order to be able to sell it.
This work has become an important part of Lucero´s life as part of his family heritage and for the history and love that each unique naturally dyed garment carries with it. One of his main goals is to publicize and preserve this tradition.
