Gustavo Bernal Varela is a ceramic artist from Tlalpujahua, Michoacán. He began his career in 1985 at the “Escuela de Cerámica” and later trained as a ceramic technician in Toluca, where he gained a scientific understanding of ceramic processes. His practice has since focused on working with local materials and developing his artistic production.

He is the founder of Taller Escuela Acá Cerámica, a community-based workshop with over 35 years of experience offering free classes to people of all ages. His work emphasizes teaching, shared experience, and the transmission of knowledge over competition or recognition, fostering a creative community where ceramics are understood as both a way of life and a collective expression.
