In the Purépecha village of Tócuaro, embroidery is more than a decorative art—it is a tradition carried from one generation of women to the next. Elisabeth Rodríguez Ramos has dedicated more than thirty-five years to preserving this heritage through cross-stitch embroidery and deshilado (drawn-thread work), skills she learned from her mother, who in turn learned from Elisabeth's grandmother. Today, she proudly shares these same techniques with her daughters, continuing a family legacy rooted in patience, craftsmanship, and cultural pride. Like many artisans in her community, Elisabeth began embroidering to help support her family while honoring a tradition that remains an important part of daily life in Tócuaro. Her meticulous work has received recognition at artisan competitions in Uruapan, Pátzcuaro, and her hometown's patron saint festival. Through every piece she creates, Elisabeth celebrates the enduring beauty of Michoacán's textile traditions and the generations of women who have kept them alive.
