David Armando Martínez Aguilar, Santa Úrsula Coapa, Mexico
David Armando Martínez was born in 1969, and is known as Sarapico (kite in the Zapotec language). The Sarapico workshop has been working in folk art for 28 years, starting with making wood engraving crafts, the later dedicating themselves to the transformation of paper and little by little specializing in the technique of papel picado and cartonería.
They use the traditional technique of hammer and chisel, freehand cutting on lead plates. Armando Martínez is an innovator of the miniature picado and so develops the technique and miniaturizes the tools of his work.
They are very proud to represent a little of the great Mexican culture in the world, and try to spread and preserve it. It is difficult to find people who create this type of art.
