Citlali Villanueva Arredondo, Taller Cueycallí, Salamanca, Guanajuato
In 2001 in Salamanca, Guanajuato, a project began in conjunction with FONART that sought to create artistic crafts. In 2005 Francisco, the father of Citlali Villanueva Arredondo, entered the program of wax sculpture with the prestigious master, Marco Miranda. Within these programs was a cartonería workshop with the teacher, Marina Lozano, who invited Citlali’s father to his workshop.
At that time the FONART program disappeared and all the workshops were absorbed by the House of Culture of Salamanca. At that point, children
and adolescents were allowed to attend workshops. Citatli´s father enrolled she
and her brother, and they began to learn the technique of cartoneria. That same
year their father won a state award and then their parents won a national award.
They were surprised and motivated by this event, since that day the family has
dedicated themselves to this beautiful art.
Together, they are the first generation in their municipality to practice cartonería.
