Pedro Ramos
Tlajomulco de Zúñiga Jalisco, Jalisco

Pedro Ramos lives and works in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga Jalisco where he works with a ceramic tachnique known as pastillaje. This technique consists of applying small rolls of clay to the surface of a piece in order to form figures or decorations. The pieces are attached while the clay is still wet, so that when the object is fired, all its parts are integrated. When his pieces are fired it is achieved using técnica del flameado o ahumado — flamed or smoked, this is how he obtains the black color of many of his pieces.

Pedro is passionate about preserving the origin and tradition of his people. At the age of 12, he learned how to work with clay in the workshop of his famous uncle Sixto Ibarra Galindo. Here he learned how to create pre-Hispanic replicas that preserve his Mexican culture. He is the second eneration of workers to pass through Sixto’s workshop.

Pedro’s work with barro (clay) has improved the quality of his family’s lives and he is passing on his
knowledge to his children by first teaching them how to decorate, paint and polish the ceramics.
