Maricela Zambrano Miguel, Santo Domingo Tonaltepec Oaxaca
Maricela Zambrano Miguel is the daughter of potters. She was born and lives in the community of Vista Hermosa Tonaltepec in the high Mixteca region in the state of Oaxaca. She is a single mother of two daughters.
She started in folk art when she decided to make pieces that were different than the utilitarian items that they had made for many years.
These new and changing forms gave me the confidence that their clay could be
molded not only for utilitarian pieces but also to show their roots and culture
through iconographic drawings and traditional forms, so that in addition to the shape and color she can draw her history, her memories and the experiences of her life. Her creations are ancestral, from very old, incalculable generations.
AWARDS
2019 Support of the Foundation HARP, HELU, TAJÍN y TRALSA
for a high fire kiln with integrated wood base, free of smoke for six persons
in her community to improve their health and the quality of the pieces.
