
Noe Tenorio Gómez, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas
Noe Tenario Gómez was born and raised in Jalapa, Veracruz where he studied under the well-known now deceased autodidact (self-educated) painter, sculptor and illustrator José Castillo Rechy. Noe fell in love with wood sculpting which he eventually gave up in favor of serigraphy for some years, however, eventually he returned to his first love, wood carving and sculpting.
Approximately five years ago, he decided to leave Veracruz and live in San Cristóbal de las Casas to be near his young daughter. Upon his arrival, he started studying sculpting under the great Chiapaneco amber sculptor Pedro, Pica Piedra, Molina for a year.
Noe works and lives in the Barrio de la Guadalupe and is developing a line of whimsical cooking utensils as well as continuing to work with his wood carvings.
He uses the hard woods that can be purchased in Chiapas in order to make pieces that are usable as well as decorative. Most of the pieces are made of exotic hardwoods such as caoba and jobillo and also are made out of oak and ash. Some decorative pieces are made of nanguipo from
