Angelica Morales Gámez, Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán

Amid the scent of wet clay and the glow of the firing kiln, Angélica Morales Gámez grew up surrounded by pottery as part of everyday life. Originally from Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán, she belongs to a long family tradition of clay work that traces not only through recent generations but back to deeply rooted pre-Hispanic origins.

As a fourth-generation artisan working with white slip (engobe blanco), her work bridges tradition and contemporary practice, incorporating lead-free glazes into her pieces.

Through her work, Angélica preserves ancestral techniques while expanding
them into new contexts, sustaining a tradition that is central to her community’s
cultural identity.
