For Wilmer Levi Sosa Mendez, the loom is more than a tool — it is a bridge between the Zapotec past and present. Trained in both backstrap and pedal loom weaving, his work honors ancestral techniques such as the “maize” pattern while embracing innovation in form and design. 

Within his workshop, tradition and experimentation coexist in balance. Each rebozo, enredo, or naturally dyed garment reflects a commitment to cultural depth and technical excellence. His practice not only preserves a pre-Hispanic textile legacy, but carries it forward with creativity, respect, and community dedication.
