Painted Paper

Marina Martínez Pedro Tepecoacuilco, Guerrero

Rooted in the Nahua painting tradition of the Alto Balsas, Marina Martínez Pedro transforms memory into image. Raised among brushes and paper, she learned from an early age that painting was a way of telling who we are and where we come from. Her works depict scenes of community life, childhood games, celebrations, and the ancestral knowledge that has shaped generations in her hometown of Xalitla, Guerrero.

Each painting is an act of remembrance and love—a bridge between past and present. Through vivid colors and narrative compositions, Marina preserves the stories that shaped her life and shares them with the world, keeping alive a cultural heritage deeply woven into the Indigenous identity of the Alto Balsas.
