Landy Rebeca Caballero Cervera, Mérida, Yucatán

In every stitch created by Pedro José Mendoza Canul, Landy Rebeca Caballero Cervera, and their family, lives the memory of the Maya people. As a child, Pedro learned by watching his grandmother prepare garments for  traditional celebrations, discovering that embroidery does more than decorate—it  preserves identity.

With 45 years of experience, Pedro's work blends creation, research, and cultural recovery.  He currently leads a project dedicated to reviving ancient stitches, restoring techniques  that form part of Yucatán’s textile heritage.

At the head of a workshop of approximately 20 collaborators, he fosters a collective  creative process in which each stage—from construction to final finishing—reflects  discipline and cultural pride. His work does not simply clothe the body; it safeguards  history.
