Andrés Vidales Sanchez, Nahuatzen, Michoacán
Adán Pilicastro Alcázar is part of a family that has become one of Mexico's most respected names in contemporary jade carving. Working from San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, he transforms one of the hardest stones in the world into sculptures and jewelry that reveal both technical precision and artistic sensitivity.
Each piece begins with carefully selected jade and requires hours—often days—of cutting, grinding, polishing, and finishing by hand. Inspired by the history of jade in Mesoamerica while developing a distinctly contemporary style, the Pilicastro workshop has helped preserve this remarkable tradition for a new generation. Their work demonstrates not only exceptional craftsmanship but also a deep understanding of a material that has been treasured for thousands of years.
