Ismael Arana Bautista is a Mexican artisan specializing in traditional Tastoan masks. He began working in folk art at the age of fourteen and is the first generation in his family to dedicate himself to this craft. Through carving, polychrome painting, and natural finishes such as maguey fiber and horsehair, he creates masks that reflect the cultural traditions of Tlaquepaque, Jalisco and the surrounding region. 

His work has received numerous recognitions in municipal, state, and national competitions, including multiple first-place awards in Tastoan mask contests and the Jalisco and Indigenous Art Awards. Through his practice, he continues to preserve and strengthen this vibrant tradition of Mexican folk art.
